“Whatever may happen to you was prepared for you all eternity; and the implication of causes was from eternity spinning the thread of your being.” - Marcus Aurelius
It’s a realist’s thought, in my opinion:
To believe that your future is already determined gives you confidence and maybe even reassurance that everything will, in fact, turn out all right. However, I have to disagree.
I would like to believe that everything I do now, here in the present, will change my future. Every choice I make, every mistake; I want my decisions to affect what happens later.
I want the ability to make it better, and not have to wonder what’s waiting for me. I have to be able to make my dream be real.
If my ‘destiny’ is determined for me, I don’t want it.
There’s no purpose for me to live through each day if I can’t know that the good I do now will make things better later.
